What is Hidden Valley Yoga

Dana Clark of Hidden Valley Yoga and Healing Centre specialises in small group classes, workshops, personal yoga & Embodyment(R) Yoga Therapy, with the intention of using yoga as a tool for transformation and illumination.

All of Dana’s classes at Hidden Valley Yoga and Healing Centre include asana, pranayama (breathing), some chanting and meditation and relaxation.
Dana offers Hatha Yoga which involves a gentle flowing style that synchronizes movement with the breath to create awareness of the lifeforce within. Moving with the breath helps to calm and focus your mind from moment to moment. This style invigorates the body while developing strength & flexibility.

She also offers Svaroopa® Yoga which is another form of Hatha yoga. It is a technique for opening your body, (roopa) to find your Self, (sva). It uses a radically different approach than most modern styles of yoga and can give you a new way to think about asana, (postures) practice.

Svaroopa® Yoga is an approach which holds postures longer, draws attention inward and creates a truly meditative experience. Its ultimate aim is to create core opening by releasing tension in the deepest layers of the body. This release deliberately begins at the tailbone and is carried up the spine, through the sacrum, waist, ribcage, and beyond. As this release is continually reinforced, the whole body begins to realign itself from the inside outward.

The Svaroopa® Yoga repertoire includes standing poses, classical poses, and vinyasa in addition to floor and chair postures. This style of yoga is based on the sutra of "support equals release" This is seen at all levels of practice where students develop an internal sense of support. The core opening cultivated when practicing foundational poses carries forward into standing and moving, and students are able to find a sense of ease and deep release.

Benefits of this style of yoga include:
  • Musculoskeletal changes in the body travel downward from the tailbone, releasing tension and dis-ease in the legs, hips, knees, ankles and feet, and upward, affecting the spine through the sacrum, lower back, waist, rib cage, shoulders, neck, and skull.
  • Spinal release to create more space for the invertebral discs and nerve roots, improving communication throughout the body's systems.
  • The core opening relieves compression of the internal organs, improving digestion, elimination, and reproductive function.
  • Reduced physical tension throughout the body enhances vitality and stamina. As your body opens, your state of mind becomes more peaceful, centered, calm and uplifted.
  • Your emotional state shifts away from depression and anxiety towards compassion, contentment and joy.

Dana offers group classes for beginners or students with yoga experience as well as individual yoga therapy sessions, personal yoga sessions and Embodyment® sessions.
